Elastin is the key Extracellular Matrix protein that is at the origin of the elasticity and resilience of many vertebrate tissues (large arteries, lung, ligament, tendon, skin and elastic cartilage). Elastin is formed through the lysine mediated crosslinking of soluble precursor tropoelastin.
